JOSEPH R. PATANE

"Hi and thanks for visiting Joe’s World Foundation website. I’ve wanted to get this up and running for some time, but it took a heck of a lot of paperwork and time to make everything official with the IRS regarding incorporation and attaining not-for-profit status.

"For years I have seen frivolous funding of projects aimed at youth leadership, counseling, education, and technology initiatives. Major donor dollars fund huge salaries and operations with no follow-up on progress or individual impact on actual teens. Many of these program initiatives tend to segregate and/or speak down to teens instead of getting on their level peer-to-peer. Sharing common experience and disappointments among teens is more effective than professing to them regarding the challenges of societal pressures like sex, drugs, alcohol, relationships, family (or lack-of issues), etc. Educated teen leaders and counselors on campuses and at clubs worldwide live and address these issues everyday, yet somehow rise above it all with fortitude and focus on the betterment of themselves and those around them. The support and encouragement of these types of peer-to-peer organizations will be one of Joe’s World Foundation’s main purposes."

Joe Patane, LSW, a social work consultant at MonmouthCares Care Management Organization in New Jersey, is a former computer business owner and MBA. Joe was an employee/contractor at Apple Computer for several years before he became an assistant to Steve Wozniak in his local summer computer camps for kids. With Steve's encouragement, Joe started, and now runs, a nonprofit organization for kids-teaching-kids since 1999. He is an advocate of peer-to-peer youth leadership and counseling initiatives and lectures across the country regarding the considerable issues that face teens today. Joe has written an autobiography on his life and post-television experiences as cast member on MTV's 'The Real World: Miami', entitled 'Livin' in Joe's World', published by HarperCollins in NYC.
